Nuclear Potential In Ohio

The article this week has been about the centrifuges in Piketon, Ohio. Take a quick look at the article below and leave a comment.

The construction of facilities to create the fuel for nuclear reactors has been halted for a long time. The issue comes out as more officials are realizing the potential of nuclear energy. Give some thought to these following questions:
Should the company be continually stalled for money when such great potential is the price?
Why should certain companies be chosen to receive loans while others that are just as viable, not given the same funding?

Chernobyl 26th Anniversary

The 26th anniversary of the Chernobyl accident was a huge step forward. Take a look at the article and then think and perhaps answer some of these questions:
With the anniversaries passing, are people still afraid of nuclear problems?
Are people more or less aware of the progress that is being made within the nuclear energy sector?
With the efforts being made with Chernobyl, are nuclear scares truly plausible reasons to stop advancements in our possible future?

German Nuclear Void

The removal of German nuclear energy from their field of energy has been the focus for the past few weeks. The story below is a report concerning the removal of the nuclear energy from the realm of alternative energy.

After reading the article I have a few questions that I have:
Would it be truly feasible to replace nuclear energy with another alternative energy?
What are your beliefs concerning the removal of this type of energy from the country's reservoir of energy?

Future

Hey everyone, I have been looking around and I know this is the second post this week (check out the link below). I wanted to make a point to say that Nuclear Energy has a long future ahead. The industry will not cease to exist and this article further solidifies this point. The industry might face some setbacks, but it will never die. Though some countries are pulling out of the nuclear energy sector, the U.S. is not. We are making plans for new reactors and much more efficient reactors. The end result will be a world with a large chunk of energy stemming from the Nuclear Energy sector. Leave a comment on what you believe will happen in the next decade or so concerning the future of energy. Or you could leave a comment on something still on topic (Nuclear Energy) and that would be just as great.

Thorium

In this week's post, I have found an interesting article concerning the discontinuation of Uranium as the primary source of nuclear power. Instead they would use Thorium, which is more abundant than Uranium in-terms of radioactive elements. The Thorium would be much more effective due to the less extreme conditions that are required to harness energy from the element. However, take a look at this article and let me know what you think. Some questions to consider: Would using Thorium be more beneficial in the public's eyes? Would you feel more safe with nuclear energy if the consequences did not seem so extreme? (Hoping the consequences would never occur) And any other thoughts, well just post them as well.

Nuclear Leakage

So take a look at this article concerning the leakage that has been reported from the nuclear reactor in Fukushima. This reactor has been apparently leaking radiation only recently. This lack of coordination from the government to clean this site up is ridiculous. I realize that the company can only do so much, but I am an advocate for having safe nuclear energy. This is a prime example of problems that set back nuclear development. I also realize that this blog is for the advancement of knowledge for nuclear power plants, but this is ridiculous. Come on Japan. Way in on the story in the comments section and if you want to put in your 2 cents then make a statement in the comments section.

US opinion divided on risks of nuclear energy

The first big conflict that I have been trying to form a question for is...With the problems that occurred in countries around the world concerning the usage of nuclear energy, what pros and cons would actually be incorporated into the decision of whether it is good or bad? In addition to answering this question, read the story below.
